Home Design - Tile Trends in 2015

Look to the latest wall and floor tile trends for home design inspiration. Whatever your style, these striking tiles combine classic motifs with emerging designs that can be incorporated into every room in your home.

Marble – eternal elegance A timeless classic, marble will always be in style. Manufacturers are now able to duplicate this luxurious look using digital technology on porcelain with stunning reality and making the look both affordable and easy to maintain. In 2015 we are seeing a variety of new tile formats from mosaics to large, almost 8ft tall tiles. Also, the variety of tile finishes is evolving. Beside the traditional matte, polished and bush hammered finishes, suppliers are introducing softly worn and undulating finishes echoing marble worn over hundreds of years and more contemporary leather finishes.

Encaustic – retro resurgence Decorative cement (encaustic) tiles are enjoying a moment right now. Traditionally made from coloured clay, the designs are intrinsic to the tile and therefore the pattern never wears away. Although traditional intricate patterns are still popular, suppliers are introducing a new wave of modern designs on porcelain making them affordable and easy to install. Available in a wide variety of colours and patterns, these beautiful tiles add style and a timeless charm to any home.

Cement – industrial chic If you like the cement look, one of the biggest tile trends of 2014 was concrete-look porcelain tiles in a variety of hues and finishes. You can get the look of concrete without the upkeep. This trend is a sophisticated interpretation of the industrial style and won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

Wood-Look – luxurious sustainability Wood-look ceramic tiles of every shade, size and color continue to be popular with manufacturers effectively recreating the patinas of petrified, aged and reclaimed wood. It’s increasingly difficult to distinguish from real wood flooring and offers unlimited design possibilities. Wood-look tiles are great for every climate, easy to maintain, durable, customizable, and a sustainable alternative to real hardwood floors. Enjoy the gorgeous beauty and luxury of wood flooring without the cost.

Texture/ 3D & Geometric – cutting-edge sophistication Textured and three-dimensional tiles are a hot trend for walls. When the light refracts off these sculptural surfaces, it creates interesting visual effects and generates a sense of movement within the space.

The strategic use of geometric tiles adds eye-catching design to any room and is becoming a huge trend. Hexagon tiles are especially popular, incorporating exciting and daring colours, textures and designs! This retro shape adds a unique element to any room design. Also making a big comeback are arabesque tiles, evoking the exotic style of Moorish palaces and adding a unique look that can be subtle or dramatic depending on your preference.

Patterns – spectacular statements Effective use of patterned tiles can create a uniquely personalised design statement in all areas of the home, so it’s no wonder they are becoming increasingly popular. Tiles with bright florals, elaborate graphics, textile-inspired designs, and even bold pop-art prints have many innovative and creative applications. If you’re a more daring sort, patterned tiles can create strong visual interest and accurately represent your unique sense of style.
