You and the Law
We are excited to be partnering with propertyskipper and, starting in July 2014, we will be featured each month on propertyskipper’s website and in their newsletter, answering some of the most common legal questions related to property. We hope to use our knowledge and experience to help you navigate the legal landscape in Bermuda.
Our Team has acted in connection with some of the most significant real estate transactions in Bermuda. We regularly represent international and domestic buyers and sellers of Bermuda property, and have extensive experience assisting with residential and commercial property acquisitions and sales (freehold and leasehold), mortgages and other property transactions. We regularly provide advice on complex property issues, and have expertise in guiding development projects through the land assembly, planning, rezoning and development phases. We also provide advice on landlord and tenant matters, and property disputes.
Meet the Team
Darren Donnithorne is the Head of the Property Practice Group. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his current practice. Darren deals with both residential and commercial property transactions and regularly advises both local and non-Bermudian clients in respect of such transactions. He provides property related advice to banks and other lenders and to developers on the acquisition and development of land. Darren has considerable experience in advising international clients on acquisitions of high value estate homes in Bermuda.
Some recent examples of Darren’s work include advising a US investment fund on various aspects of real estate investment and development in Bermuda, advising a prominent US based title insurer in relation to a significant hotel development project in Bermuda and advising a consortium of local and international owners on the effect of receivership on real estate interests within a mixed use development in Bermuda.
Darren prides himself on his commerciality and strives to deliver the most practical and cost-efficient solutions to his clients. He is committed to providing a high level of client service and has established a reputation as a meticulous, diligent and responsive attorney.
Stephanie Matthews has worked in the legal profession over 25 years. In the last 14 years, her practice has focused primarily on real estate, estate planning and probate matters. She is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and currently studying to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
Stephanie has become an experienced legal practitioner whose practice includes a wide range of property transactions, including condominium development, residential property sales and purchases, finance structures and lease agreements. She also assists clients with estate planning and probate matters. Her clients rely on her practical approach, and Stephanie’s experience and knowledge of the residential and commercial markets enables Stephanie to offer clients practical and insightful advice and assistance.
