'Meet the Agent' - Danielle Spurling from Rego Sotheby's International Realty

This month for ‘Meet the Agent’ we interview Danielle Spurling, a Real Estate Associate from Rego Sotheby’s International Realty. Danielle discusses her work and experience in Commercial Real Estate on the island and her forthcoming transition into residential rentals and sales. Danielle also discusses favourite listing on the market right now and why she loves the Bermuda lifestyle.

How long have you been a real estate agent?
I joined the Rego Sotheby’s International Realty team in August 2014 as a Commercial Rentals and Sales Associate. Since then I have played an integral role in assisting with real estate business operations mainly in areas such as client relations as a sales and rentals associate. A few notable transactions include the leasing of the 3rd floor in Park Place to Taylors in Association with Walkers Law Firm, the placement of Maiden Re at Ideation House at the Waterfront Complex, Mod Blu retail on the ground floor of Innovation House, the sale of the former Clear View site in Hamilton Parish as well as working with gyms, charities, accounting firms and other local and international businesses on island.

Why do you like working for Rego Sotheby’s International Realty? I love working for a globally recognized luxury brand. The ebb and flow of a dynamic industry allows me to work alongside talented agents and have access to an impressive inventory of listings. Whether it’s finding a new home for a family or office space for an aspiring entrepreneur, I enjoy working with a variety of individuals and assisting with their decision process. Every life story needs a setting, and I get to play matchmaker. Since 2014 I’ve specialized in commercial transactions. Now I look forward to applying my knowledge and experience from this field toward my new book of business as I transition into residential rentals and sales.

What are you looking forward to most about transitioning into residential real estate? I was born and raised here in Bermuda, and have a deep-rooted passion for the island and its unique architecture. I have yet to see every nook and cranny that Bermuda has to offer but excited to continue my adventures navigating through the colourful houses across the parishes.

What is your favorite property on the market right now? Oswego Island! I fell in love with this property the first time I stepped foot on this private island for a party, and now I have the privilege to find a buyer for this incredible listing. The private residence on this three-acre island exemplifies modern simplicity paired with traditional Bermuda flair. Everything you need is right there but it is “there” in such a tasteful way. It’s the epitome of what Mark Twain meant when he said, “You can go to Heaven if you want to. I’d rather stay in Bermuda.”

What is your favorite Bermuda lifestyle element? Maybe it’s because I’m an Aquarius, but I truly love the water. I love to swim, kayak, walk on the beach or spend the weekend on the boat. Look out, you may see me on a kayak with Artie, my four-legged Cavapoo companion. Bermuda offers tremendous outdoor activities, and I’ve never run out of Bermuda adventures.

What property trend are you seeing in Bermuda right now? Real Estate on a tiny island has always been limited. I’m noticing that there are quite a few land options available which is a unique opportunity for people who have a vision to work with one of Bermuda’s talented architects. Buying land gives homeowners total freedom to create what they couldn’t find on the market and customize it to their own tastes.

What are your top 3 tips when looking at a potential new home?

1. If seeking a mortgage, make sure you also take into account budget for renovations, furniture and expenditures for living accommodations while the home is being renovated. Don’t just budget for the home. Budget for what happens around the entire sales process.

2. Know your lifestyle. I have a dog that needs daily exercise so living near the Railway Trail works very well for me. For those who cherish water views, some of the best coastline living is found in less central parishes. Prioritizing your needs is paramount to achieving your ideal lifestyle.

3. Give your wish-list to me and I’ll save you time by shortlisting properties that match your criteria and support your lifestyle. This business is as much about personalities as it is about closing the deal. The first thing I do with my clients is talk with them and get an understanding of their wants and needs, must haves and nice to haves. Every client is different. It’s important to me that my clients know that I really listen in order to find the best fit possible.
