"Meet the Agent" - Fiona Hatfield from Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty
This month for "Meet the Agent" we interview Fiona Hatfield, a Sales Agent at Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty. Fiona has been in the business for over 30 years and discusses where she is seeing activity in the market right now, what she enjoys about working for Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty and also properties on the market right now that represent good value.
How long have you been in the business? This is my 32nd year. I originally started with Gauntlett & Jones which then became Jones Waddington which later merged with Bermuda Realty and finally became Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty.
Why do you like working for Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty and what’s the favourite part of your job? I just love working for Coldwell Banker with the opportunity to use their most professional tools and collaborating with our team. As one would imagine, I have had many memorable moments and stories to tell over the years, but my favorite part of my job has been assisting buyers and sellers through the process of buying or selling. Not to mention, all of the wonderful people, I have had the pleasure of meeting over the years.
Where are you seeing activity in the market at the moment? The activity is pretty steady in a number of segments of the market. Nearly 40% of the customers that we are working with are looking for property between $1M - $3M, unfortunately, we do not have enough quality inventory to meet the demand.
What is your favorite property on the market right now? Properties are like people, each with its own style, size, shape and personality…each an original. Therefore, they all are my favorite. It is like the fairytale Cinderella, there is always a listing for someone. It is about finding the right shoe to fit Cinderella.
What property on the market right now, in your opinion, do you think is really good value? That is a tough question because there are so many. Naturally, I am partial to my listings. I have two listed at $695,000. One with 4 bedrooms/3 baths on Dunscombe Road:

How do you see the Bermuda property market in 2018? Encouraging. If we continue to bring in offshore businesses to the island, it will create more jobs and more people moving to the island which will encourage more rentals thus encourage more sales.
What are your top 3 tips for purchasers when looking for a potential new home? Definitely get “pre-approved” this is key. Know your gut when you see a listing. Tell your agent what you don’t like and he/she will know what you do like.
Finally – do you have any good tips for sellers when preparing their home for sale? I always say, get rid of the “stuff”. Inside is just as important as outside, so declutter and paint. Outside landscaping is important. First impressions really count. “Get Ready for Showtime” in other words.
