'Meet the Agent' - Jenni Rowntree Estis from Kitson Real Estate

This month for 'Meet the Agent' we interview Jenni Rowntree Estis, a Real Estate Sales Agent from Kitson Real Estate. Jenni has recently become a licensed agent at Kitson Real Estate, bringing her experience as a Senior Broker for a Reinsurance Intermediary with her. Jenni discusses her favourite listing on the market currently, what she is enjoying about her new role at Kitson and also some top tips for sellers when preparing a house for sale.

How long have you been in the business? I became a licensed agent in July however I have been involved with real estate both by way of transactions and handling property matters for approximately 10 years, hence the reason I decided to pursue my license. My ‘other’ job is a Senior Broker for a Reinsurance Intermediary and so my skillset for bringing two parties together and negotiating a sale have been in my wheelhouse for 16 years.

Why do you like working for Kitson and what’s the favorite part of the job? I’ve joined the Real Estate division of the Kitson Group of Companies and couldn’t be more pleased with my choice. I’m joining a great group of seasoned professionals who have all been happy to help and share their wealth of knowledge with me. I like companies that have a work-hard-play-hard mantra, which fits well with my own personal work ethic and also of the Kitson Realtors. I feel honoured to join a team of such qualified and motivated agents; I look forward to adding to their network of vendors and purchasers.

What is your favorite property on the market right now? I absolutely adore Michael DeSousa’s listing ‘Mystery Cottage’. This gem of a cottage is tucked away on waterfront 1/3 acre plot in St David’s and the love and care that has gone into it is evident at every turn. Well built, and exceptionally well maintained, this cottage is in turn-key condition with fabulous gardens, abundant character details, and a view of the ocean. For those people that enjoy the lifestyle that St David’s has to offer – if words like serene, laid-back, and tranquil suit your taste -- then this is a home to see.

Trends in the Real Estate Market? In my world, I tend to see a trend toward ‘simplifying’ as Millennials continue to be less restricted by a crippling mortgage and maintaining a property in our very high cost of living jurisdiction and more about living their best life. The days of the large, grand houses have a place for some but not all. Many people are looking ahead and recognizing that the prospect of keeping up with a large house with extensive grounds throughout your life requires a huge amount of financial and time investment. Instead, open living plan mean that smaller cottages and houses can maintain that larger feel without increasing the square footage. Thinking ahead about income after retirement means that the apartment is becoming increasingly valuable with limitless options that will equal an ROI as Nanny’s Quarters, Air BNB, or a retirement option. Find a house that you can grow in and out of, would be my best advice – think single story, don’t forget the garage, and always, always a fireplace ;)

Tips for sellers when preparing their house for sale? For those considering the sale of their house, I encourage you to give us a call. Showing your house at its’ best works in everyone’s favour. Sometimes some small changes, upgrades, or staging can make a huge difference so I encourage vendors to be as open to that as possible and trust in your professional realtor to guide you in the right way. When I married my husband in 2011 I became intimately involved in his construction business and so I’m very in touch with pricing and work involved around upgrades to the home so I’m very pleased to bring this advice to Vendors looking to maximize their returns. I’ve found the work I’ve been doing so far to be highly fulfilling and satisfying and I am truly enjoying helping to find people their dream home.
