This month for ‘Meet the Agent’ we interview Makee Tucker, Sales Representative, from Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty. Makee discusses why he enjoys working for Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty, the enjoyment of handing over keys to first time buyers (see picture!), favourite listings on the market at the moment and some sound advice for house hunters to get their budget in place when looking for a new home.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A REAL ESTATE AGENT? I have been a real estate agent for 3 years come this June. However, I have always had an interest for property and I had previously been employed in sales for about 10 years. It was a natural progression for me to amalgamate my passion for real estate and my experience in sales.
WHY DO YOU LIKE WORKING FOR COLDWELL BANKER BERMUDA REALTY? Coldwell is a “one-stop-shop” when it comes to real estate. They offer all services one would require no matter what their needs are. Also, they provide their employees with so much information and opportunities that assist you with becoming successful in the industry. They also thrive on innovation and I appreciate working with people that are just as passionate about real estate as I am. I get to collaborate with a team of real estate professionals that have a wealth of knowledge. To have that at my disposal has proven to be invaluable.
WHAT IS THE FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR CAREER? Assisting first time homebuyers is definitely the most gratifying and fulfilling part of my career, thus far. To navigate them through the process in realising this milestone in their life is very rewarding. When I hand them the keys to their new home I am not sure who is happier. I enjoy meeting new people and building new relationships. I love what I do so much I have difficulty calling it “work”. In addition to that, I had my first multimillion dollar sale close in December for $4.3 million. That was an amazing feeling. And equally as rewarding.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PROPERTY ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW? One of my favourite properties on the market right now would be a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom waterfront condo I have listed for only $550,000. I enjoy being next to the water. The ability to swim, fish and boat right next to my house is Bermuda living. Not to mention waking up every morning to breathtaking water-views helps to start your day off positively.

WHAT PROPERTY ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW, IN YOUR OPINION, DO YOU THINK IS REALLY GOOD VALUE? I may be a little bias but I really believe the listing I have on Long Bay Lane as great value for money. It sits on over half an acre of all Residential 1 property with a large secluded pool. It has a cottage that consists of a 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The property is all level and offers so many options to expand. It is listed for $775,000 and if you built an additional storey you would have wonderful water-views. It is very rare to get so much property along with a cottage and pool for under $800,000. Great value.

HOW DO YOU SEE THE BERMUDA PROPERTY MARKET OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS? I am very positive that the real estate market is heating up. There is very strong data supporting that we are going in the right direction. The most telling information is a 60% increase in the actual number of sales transaction Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty has been involved in compared to last year. This means that more people in Bermuda are willing to invest in our economy and have ready access to funds.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT TIP WHEN LOOKING FOR A POTENTIAL NEW HOME? The most important tip would be to know what your budget is. To avoid disappointment I would definitely recommend consulting with a bank representative. This provides you with additional merit when you find your ideal property and you present your offer along with a letter from your bank rep stating that this property is within your budget. Compare this with someone who does not have this letter readily available, your chances greatly increase in getting your offer accepted.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT PROPERTYSKIPPER Propertyskipper has proven to be a valuable resource in searching for properties either for rental or sale. It is certainly a timesaver in doing property research as one does not have to visit every realtor site to gather information.
